Andrew Goodwin

Andrew Goodwin theory is being appiled to music videos. Andrew Goodwin belived that there was five main aspect when it comes to an music video; technical aspects of a music video, through beats, star imagine, narrative and perfoming and then relation of visual to songs. The one that my class and myself look into is the narrative and perfoming of a mucis video. Andrew himself said that 'Music video's are just extension of the lyrics', this is saying that the narrative shots within the music video should be represtation od the lyrics and showing the audience what the songs is about. Most songs consist of a mixture between narrrative and perfoming shots but in some case the peforming shots are part if the narravtive too; exmaple would be Katy Perry- think of you. There are three main different types of songs that apply to this theory songs that have no connection between the lyrics and the video, then there are songs that have some connections in which they are doing what they are singing and then the type who is singing and doing what they sing.

Scripting

For our music video we shall be having a mixture of performing and narrative shots. With our narrative shot there will be conversations that will be taking place between the actors but they won't be conversation that need to heard for the song it will be just for show. We shall be having no actual dialogue going on through our whole music video. One of the scenes shall be where two of the actors shall be rowing but also during that shot it will be a split screen shot and have the same actor who is in the present day looking back on a past memory of herself and singing to the memory. Even though we shall be not needing the script we shall be using body movements and facial expression to portray what is going on and the emotion they are feeling during the parts of the song.

Health and saftey

Health and safety issues when filming;

When we did our location shoot we also made sure that every where we filmed was going to be a safe location. We had to think about our self and the equipment we are using and the public people who were also at the park or who might be at the park when we are filming. These are just a few main things we need to think about when filming;
-Cars, one of your locations is on a graffiti background in which is in a car park, so we need to think about the cars that are going to be moving around as and coming in and out of the car park. Also if we are filming next to the park car they came back to their car they suddenly move without knowing.
-Camera being stolen, this is another aspect we need to think about when it comes to filming as we need to make sure we don’t put our self in danger or lose the school property.
-Uneven ground, have to make sure the ground we put the camera on is flat so it doesn’t slip or fall over. Also we need to make sure we don’t trip or slip over and hurt ourselves as this would put pause on the whole project.
-Smashing the glass bottles, we are using bottle of alcohol as a prop for when we are filming so we have to make sure we don’t accidently drop the bottles and them smash as we could cut hand or feet open and hurt ourselves.
-Public people, when filming in the car park and in st Georges Park have to make sure we aren’t putting our self in danger or anyone else that is about as it is a family place.
-Animals, we make sure that we don’t hurt anyone’s pet or wildlife when filming.
-Wet surface, make sure the surface isn’t slippery and fall over and hurt ourselves or break the camera in the process.

Textual anaylis taylor swift love story

Pop artists

Taylor Swift is an young pop genre artist who has had many hits in the U.S and some in the U.K. Taylor swift would be seen as a fahsion icon and is an attractive young female singer. Her songs always relate to some sort of love sistuation in whihc teenager life sometime consists of. With her lyrics some teenager are able to relate too and enjoy listening to her music. She has recently changed her look in which she has widen her target audience from 12-18 to 10-25. She has been very sucessful in the U.S.A with her hits and she is currently trying to conquer the U.K.

Little mix are a recent girl group band that has become a rising popular band within the past year. The group consist of four memebers in which are all late teen girls that all have different background and didn't orginally start off as a group. The girl have an pop urban feel to them and have had a mixture of slow down beat songs to song that will have an element of rap and beat every now and then in the song. They would have a wide target audience of boys and girls aged 12-29 with there pop songs. Little mix are the only recent young girl bands so they don't have much competetion within that area but have alot to live up too with groups that have had many of hits, spice girls, girls aloud atomic kitten.

Bruno Mars is a male example of a pop artist who has also had many sucessful hits with the past year. Bruno Mars is a mid twenty male who is a solo artist. His first sucessful hit was 'just the way you are' which was released two years ago back in 2010. His target audience would be teenage girls and boys age 13-to 30, which is a wide target audience to get up with but somehow he has been very sucessful. Bruno Mars is always where very fashionable clothes and always look smart. Bruno Mars had a sucessful hit which was feature in the film breaking daw part one 'it will rain' which was very popular with his normal fans then all the fans that enjoy twilight, this also help put his name somewhere and got himself more well known.

One Direction is one of the most sucessful boy bands out at the moment who also started off the same as little mix as a serparte solo singers who went on to the televison show x-factor and got put together and came in the rankings in the show. They have are all a teenager girl dream and they would all be considered as heart throbs. One direction main audience are girls rather than boys and are majority are teenagers. They are always in fashiobale designer clothes in which they could be seen as fashion icon too. The pop genre band have up beat tempo songs and they are all about activites that happen in there day to day life.

This is from when we went out on our shot location. We took several different shots around the st george's park and we was pleased with majourity of our shots. This shot in particlaur we shall be using the swing in our video as to have a scene of when they are psuhing one another on the swings (flashback). The leaves all around the swing is a really good effect that is naturally there which works well as we want our video to be set in the winter time to have cold winter feel to the video. We will have a long shot to show them on the swing to establish what the pair are doing then we might cut to a close up to show them laughing and having fun once upon a time.

Target audience

The target audience for our music video is older children and teenagers to late twenties. This is a large target audience as this is the same target audience as the artist in which song we have chosen to do our song based on. We have chosen to look at the genre pop which is mainly made up younger artist and bands. I would personally say that the genre pop is made up more female singers than men but that isn’t say that could change in the near future. In the recent the time more boy bands have been more popular in which the target audience is getting wider and wider. The target audience for pop would be teenage girls as usually the singers are aiming towards that target audience. I did a questionnaire in which I found out more out about the target audience is like for our chosen song.

Questionaire feedback

From doing my questionnaire I have learnt a lot from what the audience want and don’t want from their favourite artists. It has help me have a better understanding of what they expect from a music video and what they do enjoy about the music videos they produce. It has also help me understand what they like about the chosen artist we have decided to focus on (Katy Perry) this has help me realise what level we have to work up to and we have to make sure it is as unique and crazy as the image that she portrays of to her fans. It has also helped me understand the genre pop and what artist are the main pop genre figures rather than others. From this I can research what they all have in common and make them all tie into the genre pop. Within the questionnaire I asked where they download there music from this will helpful when it comes to promoting our song when it is a finished piece to ensure that it gets the fans attention.
